Tyler's Pet Service was named after our founder's dog, Tyler, a red sesame Shiba Inu
who LOVES going for walks and spending time frolicking outside.
"What's a Shiba Inu?", you may ask. Shibas are the smallest of the Japanese dog breeds. A cousin to the Akita,
Shiba Inu literally means "Little Dog" in Japanese. Shibas are proud little dogs, very inquisitive
and full of energy. While their history dates way back to ancient Japan, Shibas are a fairly rare breed
here in the United States and have only been officially recognized by the AKC since 1993.
"Wow, he looks like a fox!" Yes, he does kind of look like a fox, but he's no relation. Shibas are in essence
big Akitas in little dog bodies. Shibas come in 3 colors, Red, like Tyler, Sesame, and Black/Tan. But before
you fall in love with Tyler, beware... Shibas can be very stubborn and mischievous "little dogs". They like to
dig, chew and are accomplished escape artists. Shibas are very independent and are likely to trot off if left
unleashed or unsupervised.
He is cute though, isn't he?
